Poem and
Poet has been set up by Damaris West, herself a poet who has written
hundreds of poems, two novels and a number of short stories.
Unlike other sites which often tend to one extreme or
the other - obscure high-brow or off-the-cuff jingle - Poem and Poet is
intended to give the serious amateur an opportunity to submit work
along with the story behind it. Very often poems mean much less to the
reader than the writer not because of the quality of the writing but
because they don't have the additional insight into the people, animals, places,
feelings or events which the poem is describing. On Poem and Poet, the story is as important as the poem.
As well as this providing an improved appreciation of the poems, visitors are encouraged to send in their own thoughts
or poems based on similar experiences. By means of this, the author of the poem will gain a true picture of people's perception which it is hoped will be every bit as valuable as the more literary critique that will also come.
Important, too, are the writing resources listed on this site. If you know of any useful (and preferably free) ones, please write in and tell us so we can tell our other poets.
Poem and Poet is a celebration of poetry that is
meaningful in people's lives and the intention is to keep it that way. If you've written something, do send it in but don't forget to tell us the story behind it.
There is no particular limit on subject matter (save within the bounds of good taste - this is a family-friendly site) and whether the poem is about your new kitten, a walk in a bluebell wood or the loss of a close friend we will be pleased to receive it.
Poem and Poet is a growing site with a full-time webmaster. Consequently new material is being added daily so keep checking back.
